I live in Winston-Salem, but I became a GSOC member many years ago when they sponsored sailing trips. I was a member of the GSOC Board and served as Secretary for a couple of years. Since then I have enjoyed many other activities with the group as well.
Raised in the mountains of NC, as a youngster I was always off in the woods somewhere building forts out of bamboo and leaves. Or on a windy day, I'd go down by the river and fly kites in the corn fields. I waded in the creek in my backyard looking for crawdads and making "sculpture" out of real creekbank clay. Such were the bases for my modern day interests. I still love to wade in the streams. But now I take a fly rod with me.
I'm not just a hillbilly though. I am very well-travelled, and used to live in India in the summers. I also enjoy visiting big cities. There is so much to explore there too, such as fabulous diverse cuisine and the arts.
I am very drawn to glass art. I have even taken a lampwork class just to understand and appreciate how difficult it is to make it. (I am very curious as to how things work.)
I love old English cars and classic American cars. A Jaguar XKE will make my head turn. I see Harleys that way too, ever since I saw a huge art exhibit at the Guggenheim in NY on motorcycles. Beautiful lines, colors, and great performance.
I also play a little guitar and golf. I'm not great at either one, but I love doing these things. (However; I was on the winning team last week at a big golf tournament at Tanglewood, and I did contribute to our success more than I expected.)
i was unable to find an opportunity to take my usual annual sailing trip this year so I decided to go take the courses required to bareboat charter. In January I went to the Virgin Islands and studied sailing for 7 days. Although I had crewed for nearly 25 years, I learned so much more in those 7 days. So, does anyone want to go to some exotic or not so exotic place on a 40-50 foot sailing yacht? Let's go!
I have a NC Lifetime Sportsman's License. (In addition to fishing I used to raise and show hunting dogs and shoot skeet.) And I am NAUI certified for SCUBA.
I have two sons I am very proud of, and they live in great destinations: My 27-yr-old (Eagle Scout) works in Charleston in the IT dept. of a hospital. My 25-yr-old is a Supervisor of Design at a huge print department of New York University in Manhattan. I love to visit both of them whenever I can get a chance
My vocation? I have my own real estate brokerage, Catch & Release Properties, LLC. (I've lived in the triad and had my real estate license for 31 years.) And of course, if you know someone who needs help with their move, please keep me in mind. My business is based on a referral basis. (I can even find them a good real estate contact in another region!) I've also worked as a paralegal, a mortgage loan closer (the legal end of loans), and in residential and commerical development. Rather than considering myself ia sales professional, I would rather consider myself people's "Relocation Problem Solver". (You can go to my website if you'd like to view area homes for sale.....for FREE! This is the same database most local real estate professionals use.)
I work a little bit nearly every day, and the only time I can really take "time off" is to get out of town....beyond phone contact. So I'm open to suggestions. If any of my fellow GSOC members want to take a day hike up to Stone Mountain, or go fishing, biking, golfing, or want to travel somewhere interesting, feel free to contact me.
Hi Jayne,
meant to get back to you sooner, sorry! The group in Raleigh that sails Isotopes at Lake Townsend once a month is at this link. Very nice woman named Joleen Rasmussen is one of the officers, and she and her husband are avid Isotope sailors. You can email them out at carolinasailingclub@yahoogroups.com.
In the picture I am at Playa Bonita, Samana, Dominican Republic. Having lived in the Dominican Republic for about 2 years I traveled most of the country. I have over a thousand pictures. Do you know anything about web design? I was thinking about putting some up on a web site. I noticed your other 2 pictures were from Utah. I have been there many times. I like Zion the best. It is a beautiful State. Do you have a bike? I am thinking of organizing a day bike trip to New River Trail. Do you want to come? I am also up for hiking too.
No, you don't need a boat - they are always open for crew. We keep mine at a property I have in Rock county, but we don't use it as much as we should!
I'll send you the contact info - it's at my house.

Thanks Jayne - I hate you can't make it with us. We'll do the sailing sometime!
By the way the Raleigh Isotope group comes to Lake townsend the first weekend I think of each month to sail together and they're always looking for others - might be something you would enjoy looking into.
best,
kass
